Methodology training – pathways to self-organized learning

Independence and self-reliance are key qualifications. Therefore, on specially designated lesson days, we familiarize students with learning methods that are appropriate for their age group.

In all fifth grade classes, basic work techniques are taught in twelve lessons, including:

  • Setting up a home workspace and organizing homework
  • Learning styles and reading techniques (highlighting, structuring, summarizing)
  • Mind maps, notebook keeping, and the use of reference works
  • Preparation for class tests

The methods training continues in grade 7 and at the beginning of grade 11.

Social learning

Besides teaching, education is a central task of schools. After the autumn break, the fifth-grade classes use their homeroom periods for a unit on "Social Learning." The goal is to strengthen each individual student and the class community.

  • To get to know myself better (strengths and weaknesses)
  • Getting to know each other and finding common classroom rules
  • Communication: listening and talking to each other
  • Dealing with conflicts – arguing the right way

Trained mediators also help to resolve conflicts together during breaks.

School social work

The school social work service at the school center is available to all students, their parents and teachers for questions, interests and problems – with advice, discussions, prevention projects and networking with youth welfare institutions.

Available at 02630 958707 (Mon–Fri, 8:00–14:00), appointments by arrangement.
